Turn On Your Financial Headlights!

Have you ever tried to drive a car at night – without headlights? Of course not!  Even though the car works fine – and goes fast! – as the driver you want to see what turns and twists the road is taking, or what dangers you must avoid. 

But many retailers are driving their businesses through some dark economic times with their business headlights off. Just like the driver without headlights, without being able to see ahead, they cannot make appropriate adjustments.

The truth is, running a retail business is like driving down a dark country road.  If you want to be prepared, you have to turn on your business headlights. That means first, having timely reports and financial statements about your business. Your business headlights are your income statement and balance sheet. These two tools give you a wealth of information about the direction your business is taking by telling you where it is today.
